Check back each day for a new story to jog your memory as we lead up to the big day.
Back in July…
It was another busy month for the Island’s emergency services after an elderly gentleman was knocked over on Binstead Hill by a delivery lorry.
Mr James Cannell, 97, was believed to have suffered a medical episode while walking on the pavement, before collapsing and falling into the path of an oncoming John Lewis 7.5t delivery lorry. Sadly he died as a result of his injuries.
Meanwhile, fire crews were called to a shed fire on Lushington Hill in Wootton where gas canisters were stored. Two crews from Newport Fire Station were dispatched to the scene at around 12:15 to reports of an outbuilding fire. Eyewitnesses described to Island Echo at the time how loud explosions could be heard, believed to be that of gas bottles.
Elsewhere, firefighters from Ryde were called to Church Lane in the middle of town after a delivery van collided with scaffolding, causing the structure to become unstable.
