Crowds of teenagers were escorted through Ryde town by Police armed with CS gas and dogs in an evening dubbed as ‘Ryde Riots’ after a house party in Oakfield got out of control resulting in hundreds of youngsters becoming drunk and disorderly. The event had been advertised on Facebook.
A large number of Police officers were deployed to the area, closing roads and ushering the children and young adults to transport links on Ryde Esplanade.
A number of accusations were aired about the Police’s conduct, with CS gas and asps deployed.
Meanwhile, firefighters from Ryde Fire Station attended a caravan fire near Binstead. Crews were called to Pelhurst Road at the junction with Argyll Street after a classic orange VW caught fire. Traffic was delayed in the area.
