newsouthernvectisroute1Southern Vectis are investing over £1.2million in their Route 1 service between Newport and Cowes which includes the purchase of 4 brand new double-decker and 4 single-decker buses, specifically for use on the gateway route.

The service will see a complete revamp with a new route and a new timetable, as well as luxury extras such as Wifi on board the Alexander Dennis Enviro buses, which are being designed to last up to 15 years in service on the Island’s network.

southernvectisnewdoublesingleA longer waiting time will be introduced at the Red Jet terminal and drivers will have more time to complete their journey at the busiest times.

Double deckers will be used at busier times to accommodate more travelers and will terminate at the Co-Operative store due to the height restrictions in the town. Some double decker buses will stop at Aldi’s supermarket in Cowes to allow for easier shopping and will primarily travel via Newport Road, with the single deckers being used on the Round House route.

The relaunched service will commence in March next year.
