“I was raised in Southern Illinois and there was very little Speedway activity in the middle of the USA in the 1980s. That did not stop me from buying two used 2-valve Jawas (both had 2 speed gearbox) and a new, unassembled, Jawa 4-valve delivered in a wooden crate.
“After being graduated in 1990, I moved to Florida and discovered that there is only one flat dirt track in the entire state, so I hung up my size 14 steel shoe and moved over to road racing.
“In the 27 years I have lived here, I never met a single person that had any idea what speedway is, until I thought I had walked ‘everywhere’ through a car show called ‘Wheels Across the Pond’ in Jupiter, Florida, this past spring. While I was walking back to my vehicle I spotted 3 Speedway bikes ahead. Oh, the excitement, all these years in Florida and here I run across three Speedway bikes.
“Another visitor to the show, standing next to me, asked if I knew anything about these ‘strange looking bikes’. So, I started to run at the mouth about these machines and how awesome fun they are to wrestle around a track.
“After a few minutes of my excited explanations, Julie asked me to hang around until Steve returned to his display. The next weekend I was privileged to visit Cobras Garage Mahal where I got to meet the Luxton’s and I learned of the Wight Warriors.
“I have donated to the Wight Warriors to help keep Speedway alive.”
Speaking about the new sponsorship, Warriors Co-promoter Barry Bishop said:
“I am delighted to welcome Alan Dewey and Biketographer to the club for the rest of 2017, the first of many seasons together I hope.
“Everyone knows the importance of sponsorship to our club, both financially and of a supportive nature, and we continue all year promoting the club, the Warrior Way and My First Skid to attract and be attractive to any company or individual that would like to get involved with the club.
“Last year we started international Team Warrior with Steve Luxton in Florida and I am delighted that we have now grown this family further with Biketographer. It’s amazing the reach our club, and its ethos of a fun filled family night out, has and I hope this will continue to grow further. It gives me great pleasure to welcome Biketographer to the ‘Wightlink’ Warriors 2017 sponsorship team.”
