Sajid Javid MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government is visiting the Isle of Wight today (Thursday).

Mr Javid travelled across the Solent via Hovertravel earlier this morning before meeting the driving forces behind Ryde Arena Community Action Group. Mr Javid stopped for photographs with parents and skaters and spoke to the group’s Robbie Jones, reinforcing the Conservative’s support in re-opening Ryde Arena to the public.

It was a short car journey to Rosemary Vineyard at Smallbrook, where local election candidates from the Conservative party met with the Secretary of State. He explained his delight at hearing the Conservatives had taken control of the Isle of Wight Council earlier this year and wished the candidates the best of luck in turning the Island blue in the forthcoming elections.

Mr Javid was due to visit the Island on 23rd March but the trip was postponed following the terrorist attack in Westminster. The Island’s MP Andrew Turner has been trying to rearrange the visit since then, with the opportunity to do so arising after the Prime Minister announced her intention to call a General Election earlier this week.

The reoccurring message from the Conservatives is certainly ‘May the 4th be with you’.
