The Gatcombe and Chillerton Scarecrow Festival is to return on Saturday 27th May, with over 100 scarecrows on show throughout the 2 villages.

The festival has been running since 2010 and each year sees a diverse range of creations, with something for everyone. The event is free of charge and fun for all the family.

Festival-goers can enjoy the scarecrows of Gatcombe and Chillerton by car or on foot. The numerous local footpaths allow for a great way of getting around, whilst at the same time enjoying the beautiful, surrounding countryside.

Aunt Sally’s Tearoom will be open as usual in the Chillerton Village Hall between 11:00 – 16:00 selling both hot and cold drinks and scrumptious homemade cakes.

Caricaturist Tony Hall will be on the Green with pencil in hand to sketch-out any wannabe scarecrows.

New for this year is The Gallybagger Inn at the The Reading Room in Chillerton. Selling local ale and cider, there will also be live music from skiffle band ‘All Washed Up’ on the opening Saturday.

The festival is very much a community event raising much-needed funds for the upkeep of local facilities and amenities.

The Gatcombe and Chillerton Scarecrow Festival runs from Saturday 27th May until Sunday 4th June.
