A charity football match between Hampshire Constabulary and Isle of Wight NHS Trust is set to raise money for local charity, the Joe Ellis Trust.

The Trust is a children’s registered charity, based on the Isle of Wight, which helps island children who have cancer and their families in their time of need. The Trust was set up in loving memory of Joe Ellis, who died in 2014 at the tender age of just 13, after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer.

The fund raising match to be played between the Island’s Police and NHS is being held on Sunday 30th April 2017 at the home of Newport Football Club, St. George’s Park. Gates open at 15:15 and the match starts at 16:00.   The organisers are grateful to Newport Football Club for supporting the event and for organising the match day programme.

Over 20 NHS staff are involved from a range of departments including Estates, Mental Health, Ambulance, the Emergency Department, 999 call centre, Catering, Administration, Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Imaging and Opthamology.

Organiser of the NHS team, Pete Bullard – a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (BABCP Accredited) based at The Gables in Newport says:

“We have a great team from a range of staff who have been training several times per week.   It’s been a fantastic effort.  We’re grateful to Newport Football Club for their support making it possible for us to hold the game at a proper venue and to Paul Neill from Hampshire Constabulary for being the inspiration behind the game.”

Acting Chief Executive and Executive Medical Director at Isle of Wight NHS Trust said:

“It’s fantastic to see our dedicated staff supporting such a worthy cause.  The money raised will, I know, support a valuable cause and thanks to those who have already been raising funds or donated.  I know I should say ‘and may the best side win’, but honestly, come on The NHS Team!”

Everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is by donation of £3 per adult and £1 per child towards the Joe Ellis Trust. You can also donate via the charities Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/joe-ellis-trust.
