ARMED POLICE CLOSE OFF BELLEVUE ROAD IN VENTNOR

UPDATED: Police have closed a road in Ventnor this evening (Wednesday) due to an ongoing incident.

Several units are in attendance on Bellevue Road off Zig Zag Road after being called to the area at just gone 19:00.

2 Armed Response Vehicles are on scene.

The road has been closed to both pedestrians and motorists whilst Police deal with the situation.

UPDATE @ 20:35 – Police are now beginning to stand down from the incident, which is thought to have centred around a property on the residential street.

An arrest is thought to have been made.

UPDATE @ 21:10 – It has been confirmed that the incident has involved the Island’s Armed Response Unit, who have this evening entered The Burlington Hotel.

The road has now reopened, although a scene guard is in place surrounding the 3-star hotel.

UPDATE @ 22:24 – Forensics officers are tonight at The Burlington Hotel in Ventnor gathering evidence from a hotel room.

Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on the specifics of tonight’s alert, but Island Echo understands that a firearm was involved.

No one has been injured.

UPDATE THURSDAY – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 49-year-old man from Ventnor has been arrested on suspicion of firearm offences.

The man, who is yet to be charged with an offence, is being questioned by officers at Newport Police Station.
