UPDATED: Firefighters are working alongside Paramedics to extricate the occupant of a Vauxhall Astra following a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Newport this morning (Sunday).

2 fire appliances from Newport are in attendance at the scene of the 2-car collision on Fairlee Road alongside Police, 2 ambulances and an ambulance officer.

Emergency services were called to the incident, near where the road becomes Racecourse, at around 09:50.

Fairlee Road has been closed heading into Newport from Racecourse Roundabout but remains open for traffic heading out of the town.

Southern Vectis Route 5 and 9 buses are diverting via Staplers Road (inbound) until further notice.

UPDATE @ 10:43 – 1 woman is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance after being cut out of her vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the second vehicle involved in the crash – a silver Mini One – have been checked over by paramedics, but the duo have escaped any injury.

Fairlee Road remains closed in a southbound direction but is expected to re-open following recovery of the Astra.

UPDATE @ 11:34 – Fairlee Road has now re-opened in both directions.
