In light of the recent news that an Island couple have pulled their 6-year-old child out of school due to a boy presenting as a girl, the Isle of Wight Youth Trust has today (Wednesday) reaffirmed their support for young people of all gender identities.
Nigel and Sally Rowe of Freshwater have taken their 6-year-old son out of an unnamed primary school as a result of a classmate attending classes in a dress as a girl, despite being a boy.
The Christian couple have hit the headlines across the country for their views, which have divided opinion both locally and nationally.
Youth Trust Executive Director, Mairead Healy (pictured), has commented:
“We were saddened to hear the news that an Island family has withdrawn their child from school and is looking to sue the school in response to this issue. Our thoughts are with the children and young people who have been involved or affected by the news over the weekend.”
“We would like to reiterate that our services are open to all young people on the Isle of Wight who need professional support, regardless of their gender identity. We would also like to acknowledge the excellent work that is carried out by Breakout Youth in supporting transgender and gender questioning young people here on the Isle of Wight.”
