ROAD CLOSED IN BRADING FOLLOWING DIESEL SPILL

UPDATED: The Mall in Brading has been closed in both directions this morning (Monday) due to a large diesel spill, which has resulted in a road traffic collision.

Police have stopped traffic from travelling between Yarbridge Cross and the junction of Brading Down Road as a result of the spillage, which has run down the hill and around a sharp bend.

A motorcyclist has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital with leg and arm injuries after coming off their motorcycle at around 07:30.

Island Roads are on scene and are working to resolve the situation, however the road is likely to remain closed for some time. A hard road closure has been put in place.

The lower half of The Mall, connecting with High Street, remains open.

UPDATE @ 09:02 – The road remains closed as Island Roads operatives lay down spill kits. A road sweeper is also being utilised.

UPDATE @ 10:35 – The road has now reopened in both directions.
