UPDATED: A 67-year-old man is to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court tomorrow (Friday) charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
On the afternoon of 6th June Armed Police moved in on a property in Freshwater where 4 officers, with weapons drawn, surrounded the residential address.
It soon emerged that Police were at the wrong location resulting in the specialist officers being re-deployed to Godshill where a man was arrested and taken into custody.
According to Island Echo sources at the time, a cold caller was threatened by an individual sparking a 999 call to be made to Police.
David Lench of Jubilee Close, Godshill is accused of possessing an imitation Revolver handgun with intent to cause fear of violence, contrary to Section 16A and Schedule 6 of the Firearms Act 1968.
UPDATE – Mr Lench has been given unconditional bail and is due to appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 15th September.
No plea has been entered.
