The Isle of Wight Conservative Association has confirmed it is throwing its weight behind Andrew Turner as the parliamentary candidate for the Conservatives in the forthcoming snap general election.

Councillor Ian Ward, chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association has said:

“We are united in supporting our well-respected Member of Parliament, Andrew Turner to carry the Conservative flag for us again on 8th June.  We were advised yesterday afternoon about the formal re-adoption process for sitting Conservative MPs, and we are now in the process of putting that into place”.

Islanders voted Andrew into office for a fourth term just 2 years ago. Now, the Island will once again be able to voice its opinion following the Prime Minister’s shock announcement of an early general election.

Cllr Ward continued:

“The Island’s Conservative Association is currently working hard on the local government elections, and we are the only party which has put forward 40 strong candidates for 4th May; giving everybody on the Island the opportunity to vote for a Conservative candidate.

“We want an effective Conservative-led council following the elections in May, to work closely with Andrew, our hard-working Conservative MP, engaging together for the benefit of the Island and Islanders with a Conservative Government with a renewed mandate.

“Following the collapse of the Independent Group, the strength of that united and collaborative approach is already being demonstrated and we will strive to ensure those close links continue for the benefit of all Islanders”.
