The Living Room, a community cafe helping to restore broken lives and guide young adults in the right direction, has been shortlisted in The Love Britain and Ireland Awards for their work on the Isle of Wight.
The awards recognise outstanding groups, projects and services who are putting Christian faith into action within their local communities. This year saw hundreds of entries to the 6 categories, which an award for working with the disadvantaged. Competition was fierce with nominations coming from far and wide across the UK.
Run by the charity Revive, The Living Room is staffed by volunteers and provides valuable work experience for young adults with behavioral problems, helping to build confidence and social skills.
The group will find out if they been successful when the overall winners are announced at a ceremony being hosted by comedian and TV personality Tim Vine in Central London later this month (20th September 2017). The nominated projects are being profiled and shared online to help highlight the important contribution Christians are making to society.
Premier CEO Peter Kerridge, who helped judge this year’s awards said:
“We were delighted to receive so many entries to this year’s Love Britain and Ireland Awards and The Living Room really stood out for the positive difference they are making to people’s lives on the Island.
“It clearly illustrates how Christians in our communities are demonstrating love for their neighbor everyday by supporting and impacting different aspects of our daily lives. This is our chance to shine a light on the work they do and share a little of the many good things that are happening in communities across our nation.”
Prizes for each category include £500 cash and a media advertising package valued at approximately £1000 including on-air and online profiles. The judging panel included Kate Parminter, Deputy Group Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords and Stuart Keir CEO of the Audacious Foundation.
