Islanders are being invited to brave the cold and take a New Year’s Day dip in aid of the Wessex Cancer Trust’s Portsmouth Transport Service.
On Monday 1st January 2018 men and women of all ages will don their swimming costumes to raise funds for the vital link between the Island’s ferry terminals and Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra Hospital.
The mini-swim will take place at The Salix Cafe at Small Hope Beach, Shanklin at 13:00, with registration – price at £5 – from midday. The registration fee includes a hot drink after the dip.
Since 2014 Island cancer patients travelling across to Portsmouth for treatment have been using a dedicated bus service to QA Hospital. Each year the bus provides over 6,000 passenger journeys for cancer patients from the Island.
Despite generous donations from passengers, the Wessex Cancer Trust is not able to continuie the running of the service without considerable financial support and therefore the trust is reaching out to the Isle of Wight community for help.
