Staff at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust are to swap scrubs for shorts this New Year’s Day when they take to the football pitch to raise funds to support an Island family affected by cancer.

The match is being held to help support Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Michelle Wright and her partner Steve, who is terminally ill with cancer. Michelle and Steve, who work on the Island for parcel delivery company UPS, have 3 young children.

The charity football match between hospital theatre staff and a side of Isle of Wight all comers is being staged at St George’s Park, Newport by kind permission of Newport IOW FC on 1st January 2018. The day starts at midday with kick off, weather permitting, at 12:30.

All ages and abilities are welcome for this just-for-fun friendly match.  All proceeds from the day will go towards giving the family time away together and expenses for treatment in Southampton.

Supporters are welcome to join for an action packed afternoon of football fun. There will be a range of refreshments available, along with a raffle and auction for some amazing prizes and face painting.

A big thank you to Island businesses and organisations who have donated time, money and prizes including Newport IOW Football Club; IOW Tours; Doris Pinks; On the Rocks Yarmouth; Little Joy Jewellery; Slab Fudge; Summer Lily’s Florist; The Mill Bay; Isle of Wight Pearl; Garlic Farm; Wight Fit Gym; Skin Trade and others.
