Plans for Ryde Inshore Rescue’s inaugural New Year’s Day swim are continuing to develop as the big day approaches.
The brand new event is being held at Appley beach on Monday (1st January 2018) and will see swimmers plunge into the Solent to raise vital funds for the independent lifeboat station.
Activities get underway at 10:00 with a safety briefing for all swimmers before a special search and rescue demonstration is carried out involving both lifeboats. At 10:30 the launch tractor will sound its horn for the start of the swim. Councillor Wayne Whittle has kindly agreed to start proceedings.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team will be in attendance and a fire engine from Ryde is also expected to make an appearance.
Ryde Inshore Rescue’s shop will be open with hot and cold drinks available for both spectators and competitors alike.
There is public parking all along the seafront and a large public car park at Appley Park.
