The Mill Bay, Ventnor are holding a fun day to raise awareness and money for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E) on Saturday 22nd July.

Throughout the day there will be lots going on such as a BBQ; live music; games; a raffle with around 30 prizes and even a charity waxing, starting at 16:00.

Local Ventnor firefighter Ben Cooper wants to raise £1,000 for his chest to be waxed and £1,500 for his chest and back – the more money he raises the more gets waxed! Daniel Toogood and Blaise Franklin are collecting sponsor money to be waxed also.

The event gets underway at midday with music from Lucan between 15:00-17:00 and The Ohmz between 19:30-21:30.

The team have previously carried out a 24 hour bounce, a 24 hour cycle and a 72 mile walk around the island. Altogether over £5,000 has been raised in just 2 years.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is sometimes referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). It’s a severe chronic, fluctuating, neurological condition that causes symptoms affecting many body systems, more commonly the nervous and immune systems. There’s an estimated 250,000 people in the UK affected by M.E and around 17 million people worldwide.

Organiser Mollie Tredwell has said:

“Right now there is no known cure for M.E and there is more research going into male baldness then there is M.E. So we want to try to raise as much awareness and money as we can to go towards research into a cure for M.E”.
