The volunteer crew of Ryde Inshore Rescue pulled a man from the water after he fell from underneath Ryde Pier during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Solent Coastguard tasked the independent lifeboat station to investigate reports of a person in an awkward position underneath the historic structure at 02:37.
Ryde Rescue 2 was quickly on scene but as the man went to get into the lifeboat, he slipped and fell into the water.
Thankfully, the casualty was quickly hauled on board before being rushed to Ryde Harbour, where the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were standing by.
A spokesperson for Ryde Rescue has said:
“It was the first shout for our newest Coxswain and, alongside his crew, he handled the situation without hesitation and resolved what could have been a job with a very different outcome very professionally.”
