UPDATED: A man has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance following a fall from scaffolding in Cowes this afternoon (Tuesday).
Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident on Victoria Road near the junction with St Mary’s Road at around 13:45.
It is unclear how serious the man’s injuries are or how the fall came about.
Police are in attendance at the scene and the road has been closed.
UPDATE @ 16:14 – Island Echo understands the unnamed individual has sustained serious head injuries and is likely to be airlifted to a mainland hospital for specialist treatment.
In the past few minutes Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter has taken off from St Mary’s helipad, but it remains unclear at this time if it is transporting the injured man.
UPDATE @ 16:24 – It has been confirmed that the man has been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital having sustained a fractured skull, among other injuries.
It is understood the casualty fell from a height whilst building scaffolding.
