UPDATED: The Isle of Wight’s very own Keegan Brown is through to Round 3 of the World Darts Championship, where he potentially faces stepping up to the oche against one of the world’s best darts players, Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor.
Keegan, from Newport, took a 4-2 set victory over Zoran Lerchbacher at Alexandra Palace this afternoon (Saturday) in what was a nail-bitingly close match.
The Wightlink-sponsored Islander got off to a good start pushing 1-0 ahead, but he missed a double 16 for the second set making it 1-a-piece. A bad leg in the third set put doubt in people’s minds but Keegan proved his worth and eventually battled back to 3-2 before checking out on a 108 for his 4-2 victory over Austrian-born Lerchbacher.
The victory has bagged the St Mary’s Hospital lab worker yet more airtime on the world stage. It’s the first time in his career that he has progressed as far as Round 3 in the world championship.
Keegan will go against the winner of tonight’s match – between Phil Taylor and Justin Pipe – on Thursday evening (28th Dec).
