FALLEN TREES CLOSE ROADS ACROSS THE ISLAND

UPDATED: Island Roads are working to clear a number of fallen trees from the road network this morning (Wednesday) following 89mph winds overnight.

Contractors are on scene at Pondwell Hill/Calthorpe Road near Nettlestone where a tree has come down across the carriageway. Meanwhile on the other side of the Island, a tree is blocking Newport Road in Niton.

Trees have already been cleared from Pound Lane, Calbourne and Harding Shute, Ryde.

A top wind speed of 89mph was recorded at The Needles at midnight as ‘Storm Eleanor’ swept across the country.

UPDATE @ 09:21 – Island Roads have confirmed that all fallen trees have now been dealt with.
