MULTIPLE CASUALTIES IN MILITARY ROAD CRASH

UPDATED: Multiple casualties have been conveyed to hospital following a single vehicle road traffic collision on Military Road near Freshwater Bay.

The vehicle – a Vauxhall Corsa – is understood to have left the carriageway at Compton shortly before 21:30 (Tuesday), taking out a fence in its path.

Emergency services have worked together to gain access to the vehicle, treat the patients and make the scene safe.

2 fire appliances from Freshwater and Yarmouth responded to the call for help alongside Police and at least 2 ambulances from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Although Military road was closed in both directions, it has since re-opened.

UPDATE @ 06:47 – 1 person has been transferred to Southampton General Hospital and 2 others are said to be in a stable condition at St Mary’s Hospital following last night’s crash.

It has been confirmed that the vehicle was located some 15m down an embankment near to Compton Chine – between Brook and Freshwater.

UPDATE @ 12:29 – A 17-year-old boy remains in Southampton General Hospital this lunchtime having suffered serious injuries.

A second 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were also in the car at the time of the crash.
