The road has been closed in both directions as fire crews from Ryde and Newport work to extricate the female occupant of a Honda Civic.
No other vehicles appear to have been involved in the incident, which occurred at just before 17:20.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are working with firefighter colleagues at the scene.
UPDATE @ 18:18 – The female driver has been safely extricated from the vehicle and is now in the care of paramedics. She is to be conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
Recovery is on standby to recover the car.
UPDATE @ 18:52 – An elderly woman has escaped any serious injury after colliding with a tree, it has been confirmed.
The vehicle was travelling towards Brading when the female driver lost control and collided with a tree at the side of the carriageway, causing substantial damage to the front end of the Honda.
Sadly, it is understood the woman’s dog has died in the incident.
The car has now been recovered by Bartletts Service Station and the road has reopened.
