Emergency services, including the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, were called to the scene at around 17:50 yesterday evening (Wednesday). The incident happened at the junction of Town Lane and Corf Road on a right-left bend as the motorcyclist travelled through the area having left Gurnard.
Despite the best efforts of local paramedics and the HEMS team, the motorcyclist’s life could not be saved and he was declared dead at the scene. He is understood to have sustained devastating head injuries in the smash.
It has been confirmed that the motorcycle was in collision with a dark blue VW Beetle. The 62-year-old male driver managed to escape uninjured.
Sergeant Mark Thornley has said:
“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or who saw either the motorbike or dark blue Beetle in the area prior to what happened.
“Any information you have could really assist our investigation, so please get in touch.”
The man’s next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers at this time.
