English pop singer, songwriter and actor Chesney Hawkes will be setting sail for the Isle of Wight in August to join hit makers Leo Sayer, T’Pau, Toyah, Jaki Graham and Five at Jack up the 80s.
Chesney Hawkes’ career began at 19, when he appeared as the title character in the film “Buddy’s Song” alongside Roger Daltrey. He is best known for releasing the hit single The One And Only, from the film’s soundtrack.
Written by another Jack Up The 80s favourite Nik Kershaw, who appeared at the event last year, the song was later featured in the opening credits of Doc Hollywood (1991), starring Michael J. Fox. The single spent 5 weeks at Number 1. It has become part of the soundtrack of a generation and still features on radio playlists, compilations and in DJ sets everywhere.
Organisers of the event have said:
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Chesney for his first ever appearance at Jack Up The 80s. An exceptionally talented musician, Chesney and his band promise a great live set crammed full of his personal 80s favourites as well as several of his own collaborations with other famous name artists.”
Chesney has always had a soft spot for the Island. Last time he was here he visited the Garlic Farm. He lives in Los Angeles but likes to base himself in the UK during the Summer months, performing at a select number of festivals.
Early Bird tickets go on sale on Monday 22nd January at www.jackupthe80s.co.uk.
