CAR FLIPS ONTO ROOF ON 20MPH WEST WIGHT ROAD

UPDATED: A car has landed on its roof after hitting a bollard and flipping on a quiet 20mph road in the West Wight this evening (Tuesday).

Fire crews from Freshwater and Yarmouth are in attendance at the scene on Weston Road, Totland alongside Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Emergency services were alerted to the single vehicle incident at around 21:00.

The road is currently blocked by the blue Renault Laguna in both directions.

It remains unclear what has caused the driver to career into the solid bollards at a pinch point.

UPDATE @ 22:09 – Fire crews have made the scene safe and have now stood down from the incident.

Meanwhile, a man is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. His injuries are not thought to be serious.

UPDATE @ 22:20 – Bartletts Service Station have successfully recovered the vehicle and the road has re-opened.
