UPDATED: Police and paramedics are attending a road traffic collision at Avenue Road in Sandown tonight (Saturday). 

A silver Perodua Kelisa has crashed into a traffic light at the junction of Avenue Road and Perowne Way underneath the railway bridge.

2 ambulances are on scene alongside local Police units.

The road remains open for the time being.

UPDATE @ 20:25 – Traffic heading into Sandown is now being diverted via Perowne Way, however those leaving Sandown can do so via Avenue Road.

It is currently unclear what caused the apparent single-vehicle collision.

Recovery of the car has been arranged.

UPDATE @ 21:20 – The Perodua has been recovered from the scene and the road has reopened in both directions.

Island Echo understands a male – who is wanted by Police for other matters – has been conveyed to hospital with a head injury.

Witnesses allege the driver of the vehicle was impaired at the time of the crash.
