Councillor Chris Whitehouse (Newport West Ward) has been given the position.
Speaking earlier this week, Councillor Whitehouse said:
“The Leader of the Council asked me to take on the position of Cabinet Secretary a short while ago. The role involves attending informal meetings and discussions of the Cabinet, feeding in to discussions on policy and issues that arise, including work on our forthcoming Corporate Plan, and various communications issues. A more detailed job description is being developed and will be published once finalised”.
Cllr Whitehouse currently also serves as a member of the Policy and Scrutiny Committee for Children’s Services. He stood down earlier this year from his previous role as lead member for Children’s Services to allow him to focus on his studies at London’s specialist philosophy college, Heythrop College, where he was working towards an Master of Arts degree in Contemporary Ethics.
“My course is now completed and I’m waiting anxiously for my results which will be announced in a few days’ time. Meanwhile, I’m back up to full speed as a member of the Conservative Team at County Hall.”
Te Leader of the Council, Councillor Dave Stewart added:
“The whole Cabinet benefits from Chris’s input into our discussions. His political experience and communications skills are unique and add real value to our team. The position of Secretary to the Cabinet may appear to be a pretty low-key one and a rather thankless task in many ways, but it is important in ensuring that we deliver on our vision for the future of the Island.”
