UPDATED: Firefighters from Sandown and East Cowes are assisting a homeowner with a flooded property in Brading this evening (Boxing Day).

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the residential property on New Road – opposite Wrax Road – at around 18:40, mobilising an appliance from Sandown and the Incident Support Unit from East Cowes.

The call to action comes following several hours of torrential rain across the Island.

Dyno Rod engineers are now on scene as fire crews prepare to stand down after more than 2 hours in attendance.

The main Ryde to Sandown road is unaffected.

UPDATE @ 21:50 – Emergency services have now left the scene having successfully cleared the flood.

The first crew was mobilised at 18:14, followed by the Incident Support Unit from East Cowes 30 minutes later.

It is understood sewage water backed up into the property as a result of blocked drains.
