UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service are attending reports of a barn fire in Alverstone this evening (Wednesday).
Fire crews from across the Island are tackling the fire in the rural village between Brading and Newchurch.
Control were alerted to the incident off Alverstone Road at around 19:00.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – The fire has taken hold of some 400 bales of hay and a mobile home at Borthwood Farm.
2 main jets, 4 breathing apparatus and hose reels are being used to tackle the blaze.
Appliances from Bembridge, Sandown and Shanklin are on scene alongside a water bowser from Ventnor, the Incident Support Unit from East Cowes and the Incident Command Unit from Newport.
No one is thought to have been injured.
UPDATE @ 21:25 – The fire has now been extinguished thanks to the efforts of Island firefighters, who remain on scene damping down.
Despite initial reports that the fire had spread to hay bales, it has been confirmed that the vast majority have been saved.
Resources are starting to make up and stand down from the incident.
It was only 6 months ago that fire crews tackled a wood pile fire at the same farm.
